Community Notices

November 20, 2024: 5: 30 PM Update to the Community of Ucluelet Re: Wind Storm

  • Crew Safety: Reminder to please use caution and slow down if driving around the areas where crews are onsite working.
  • Storm Drains: As a result of the wind storm some of Ucluelet's storm drains remain plugged with debris. Residents are encouraged to check storm drains near their properties and clear any debris if it is safe to do so. This simple action can help reduce water buildup and prevent further issues. If you encounter significant flooding or blocked drains that cannot be cleared safely, please report the issue to the local Public Works department. 250-726-8587
  • Extreme Wave Activity: Avoid beaches and shorelines. Parks Canada has issued an extreme wave hazard advisory, notifying the public to use extra caution on beaches, shorelines and coastal waters in and around Pacific Rim National Park Reserve on November 20 and November 21. During this time, combined seas are expected to reach up to 7-9 metres. Very large wave conditions will create strong currents and upper-shoreline flooding. Beaches can go from completely dry to several feet under water in only seconds. These surges can be powerful and unpredictable and have the potential to float or roll logs. When combined with high tides, waves can breach areas beyond the upper shoreline, including parking lots.
  • Wild Pacific Trail Closure: The Wild Pacific Trail will remain closed for public safety until further notice. Crews will work toward clearing debris, assessing trees and reopening trails as soon as it is safe to do so.
  • Road Conditions: High winds have resulted in fallen trees and other debris on several roadways, creating potential hazards for motorists. Please use caution when traveling. Highway 4 has reopened. Check Drive BC before travel/ for updates: DriveBC
  • Power Updates: At this time power services are not yet restored. Please continue to be vigilant and prepared. PreparedBC emergency guides and resources - Province of British Columbia. For BC Hydro updates, please visit: BC Hydro - Power smart
